Edward was the only one of the councillors to have been born in Halsall. This was in 1849 to Jane Threlfall and Thomas Threlfall who were cousins and lived on Narrow Lane. Edward lived and worked on Narrow Lane all his life.
He married Mary Threlfall (again his cousin – daughter of Henry Threlfall, another Halsall farmer) on 29th July 1872 at Halsall Church. In 1881, Edward was head of the household and farming 33 acres. His wife, Mary, died in 1894 so by the 1901 census he is living with his children – Ellen – 21, Thomas – 19, Henry – 16 and Edward – 14 years old.
A year later, however, Edward married Elizabeth Clare, nee Prescott (the widow of Peter Clare, farmer from Morris Lane, Halsall) and they eventually retired to live in Carr Moss Lane, Halsall. Edward died on 8th March 1915 and is also buried in the graveyard of Halsall Church.
