We have found a signed copy of the marriage register but no photograph yet of JOB Grimshaw.
Job was born in 1833 in Burscough to Thomas Grimshaw and Margaret Meadows. His baptism took place at Ormskirk Church on 20th October 1833. His father, Thomas farmed 120 acres at Gorsuch House and in 1851 Job was 17 years old and working on the farm.
On 5th December 1860, he married Susanna Hesketh, daughter of John Hesketh (also a farmer) of Halsall. Job Grimshaw farmed at Renacres Lane, Shirdley Hill. He and Susanna had two sons, Thomas and John – named after their grandfathers. He was obviously friendly with Joseph Harrison as he was a witness at his wedding to Job’s sister, Margaret.
By the time the census of 1891 was taken, Job had retired at the age of 58 years old. He became a councillor in his retirement in 1894, one of his first duties being to collect rents and distribute dole on St. John’s day, alongside Richard Aspinwall and Edward Threlfall. He died on 22nd October 1898 and is buried, along with his wife Susanna in Halsall Church graveyard. His funeral took place on 25th October 1898 and was performed by Canon Thomas Blundell.
