Residents of each Halsall Street

Street names are not consistent from one Census to another. New streets were built, streets were renamed and disappear from the Census records. Other streets lost their houses so they no longer show on the Census but they can re-appear later if new houses were built.

A new idea for the future is to find a way of showing changes to street names e. g. part of Cross Lane became Summerwood Lane. Halsall is a rural area, very few houses (1851-1871) had property numbers or even names. The Census Enumerator's numbers were not consistent from one Census to another. It is only the family name e. g Blundell family that may link a property from one Census to another and identify that a street name has changed, or did they move houses? It is challenging but we are gaining knowledge about the geography of the village and the surrounding area.
